BLACK CHURCH P.A.C.
VOTE OR ELSE
When the Moment is Chaotic, the Message Must Be Clear
OUR TASK
CNBetter Media was contracted to lead in-market publicity and press engagement for the Black Church PAC during the height of the 2024 presidential election cycle—one of the most politically charged and culturally sensitive moments in recent history.
The organization required immediate support to amplify its Vote or Else civic engagement initiative in Detroit, which included large-scale community canvassing, celebrity-driven voter mobilization, a major town hall conversation, and the launch of a cultural soundtrack for the movement.
The Challenge:
Execution was unfolding in real time, details were incomplete or shifting, and partner alignment was inconsistent—yet expectations for impact, visibility, and credibility were extremely high.
Our role was to step in, stabilize the narrative, protect the client, and deliver results on the ground.
OUR SOLUTION
CNBetter Media operated as the primary in-market PR lead, managing press, messaging, and real-time problem solving amid fast-moving and unpredictable conditions.
In-Market & National Media Outreach
- Executed simultaneous local and national pitching for both the Vote or Else: Detroit campaign and the Black Church PAC’s sponsorship activation with the Reunion Tour.
- Secured television, digital, and print coverage across Detroit media markets while also fielding national press interest tied to the broader election conversation.
- Organized and facilitated a press day that included in-studio interviews, on-site coverage, and post-event follow-ups.
Community Canvassing & Grassroots Amplification
- Amplified early-day door-knocking and community canvassing efforts in East and West Detroit, where local leaders, artists, and national hip-hop figures engaged residents around voter participation.
- Supported visibility around college campus activations at Wayne State University and Pensole Lewis College, positioning youth engagement as a central pillar of the movement.
Crisis Management: Town Hall Pivot
The day culminated in a highly anticipated “Democracy or Else: Town Hall & Celebrity Debate.” Due to a breakdown in partner-led marketing and promotion, the event faced a critical challenge: no public audience turnout in a large convention-center ballroom.
With the client under visible stress and reputational risk high, CNBetter Media:
- Immediately restructured the experience into a digital-first content moment
- Created a run of show, discussion flow, talking points, and calls-to-action on the spot
- Repositioned the town hall as a recorded, high-value conversation designed for post-event distribution
The panel—featuring nationally recognized activists, artists, and cultural leaders—was recorded in full and later distributed via YouTube and press channels, allowing the conversation to reach audiences far beyond the room and preserving the integrity of the moment.
Post-Event Press Servicing
- Authored and distributed a comprehensive post-event recap to media, complete with curated photos, video links, talent lists, and access points for follow-up interviews.
- Positioned the Vote or Else campaign as a culturally driven, community-rooted counterpoint to other high-profile political moments happening in Detroit that same week.
OUR RESULTS
Despite disorganization, compressed timelines, and live-event challenges, the Detroit activation delivered meaningful visibility and cultural impact:
- Secured local and national media coverage highlighting the Vote or Else movement
- Amplified a full day of civic engagement across community, campus, and cultural spaces
- Successfully pivoted a failed in-room event into a digitally distributed town hall conversation
- Preserved client credibility and momentum during a high-risk election moment
- Created evergreen press and video assets that continued to circulate beyond the activation window
The Vote or Else: Detroit activation demonstrated CNBetter Media’s ability to lead under pressure, think strategically in real time, and execute with clarity when conditions are far from ideal.
By stepping into chaos with calm authority, we protected the client’s mission, amplified their message, and ensured the work reached the audiences it was meant to serve—proving that effective publicity is not just about planning, but about commanding the moment when plans fall apart.
