THE BIRTH OF A NATION
TALENT / EXPERT POSITIONING
Placing the Story Where Influence Already Lives
OUR TASK
CNBetter Media was engaged to support The Birth of a Nation through strategic expert positioning and high-impact event integrations designed to reach influential African American audiences where culture, leadership, and community converge.
Rather than traditional press outreach, our mandate focused on placing the film—and its core themes of resistance, faith, and Black liberation—inside the most trusted, influential, and attended Black-led institutions and convenings nationwide. These audiences included civic leaders, faith communities, journalists, sorority leadership, academics, and cultural tastemakers whose endorsement and word-of-mouth influence would drive awareness and urgency ahead of the film’s release.
OUR SOLUTION
CNBetter Media executed a multi-layered, culturally fluent integration strategy that embedded The Birth of a Nation into the programming, conversations, and stages of major African American conferences, conventions, and festivals across the country.
Expert Positioning & On-Stage Integrations
We strategically positioned film talent and subject-matter experts to:
- Address audiences from the main stage
- Present awards or special recognitions
- Participate in curated conversations tied to history, justice, faith, and Black legacy
- Introduce and contextualize the film’s official trailer
Each appearance was intentionally framed to connect the film’s narrative to the mission and values of the hosting organization, ensuring relevance and resonance rather than disruption.
Major Conferences & Cultural Convenings Activated
CNBetter Media integrated The Birth of a Nation into:
- NAACP National Convention (Opening Plenary & Special Screenings)
- National Urban League Conference
- NABJ Convention & Film Festival
- Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference (ALC)
- Essence Festival
- Jack & Jill of America National Convention
- Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Boulé
- Faith-based conferences, including the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship
Across these moments, we coordinated:
- Trailer placements and film introductions
- On-site screenings and moderated discussions
- Distribution of promotional materials
- Strategic audience calls-to-action timed to the film’s release
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – National Membership Integration
As an added layer of influence, CNBetter Media aligned with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s National Arts & Letters Commission to feature The Birth of a Nation in their national membership newsletter under the “Delta Red Carpet Films” section.
This placement delivered direct visibility to one of the most powerful, educated, and civically engaged Black women’s organizations in the world, extending the film’s reach far beyond traditional marketing channels.
OUR RESULTS
- Successfully embedded The Birth of a Nation within the nation’s most influential African American institutions and convenings
- Positioned the film as a culturally urgent and historically significant work, not just an entertainment release
- Generated sustained word-of-mouth momentum among civic leaders, journalists, faith leaders, educators, and sorority members
- Strengthened trust, credibility, and community buy-in through values-aligned placements
- Expanded national awareness through live audiences, organizational newsletters, and post-event amplification
This strategy demonstrated the power of meeting audiences where culture, faith, leadership, and influence already live—turning events into advocacy engines and conversation catalysts for the film.
Strategic Takeaway
This case study powerfully showcases CNBetter Media’s ability to:
- Navigate complex cultural ecosystems
- Secure access to high-level institutions
- Position film narratives within meaningful community contexts
- Execute large-scale integrations that drive credibility, not just visibility
