OUR TASK
CNBetter Media was engaged to support The Birth of a Nation through integrated marketing and experiential strategy, designed to build meaningful cultural resonance for the film ahead of its theatrical release.
Rather than traditional publicity, our mandate was to embed the film directly into Black cultural institutions, thought-leadership spaces, and community power centers — ensuring the story of Nat Turner reached audiences in environments where historical truth, cultural context, and emotional impact could be fully honored.
The challenge was ambitious:
How do you activate a film of this magnitude without relying solely on press, while still driving awareness, conversation, credibility, and word-of-mouth at scale?
OUR SOLUTION
CNBetter Media designed and executed a multi-layered national engagement strategy, leveraging influencers, institutions, conferences, and curated screenings to position The Birth of a Nation as both a cinematic moment and a cultural reckoning.
1. HBCU Screening Tour & Academic Engagement
We produced a multi-market HBCU screening tour, partnering with institutions including:
Each screening featured:
The result was not passive viewership — it was active dialogue, positioning the film as essential viewing within academic and historical discourse.
2. National Conference & Festival Integration
CNBetter Media embedded the film within some of the most influential Black-led convenings in the country, including:
Across these activations, we:
This approach ensured the film lived inside culture, not just alongside it.
3. Faith-Based Community Engagement
Recognizing the spiritual dimensions of the story, we activated faith-based audiences nationwide, partnering with major church conventions and religious leadership networks.
These moments reframed the film as:
This strategy expanded reach into communities often underserved by traditional film marketing — while maintaining authenticity and respect.
4. Influencer & Celebrity Screenings
CNBetter Media curated private influencer and word-of-mouth screenings in key markets — most notably a high-profile private screening hosted by Will Packer at his Atlanta residence.
This intimate, invitation-only experience brought together:
The screening generated organic social amplification, peer-to-peer advocacy, and cultural credibility that no traditional ad buy could replicate.
This single activation alone could stand as its own case study in influencer-led film engagement.
OUR RESULTS
This work exemplified how strategic cultural integration can elevate a film beyond marketing — into movement.
