Somebody in Nobody Status

Somebody in Nobody Status

So, there I was on a plane journeying back home from a business trip. I was sandwiched in between two people, and as in most circumstances, they were complete strangers who showed no interest in acknowledging my presence beyond filling a seat. I felt like nobody. To them, I was nothing more than a person who bought a ticket and was taking up space just as they were. It was then that the thought of being nobody became a very serious ponderance and shook the very essence of my being. Internally, I knew that I was something more. Deep down inside of me, I knew that I had purpose that exceeded my current reality. I was greater than the life I was living. Yes, I was SOMEBODY … but I was in NOBODY status.
As I sat there, I couldn’t help but think of how many “somebodies” there were on the plane, let alone in the world. How many were stuck in a “nobody” mindset? How many had become complacent in the dreams of others and accepted them as their own reality? How many knew they were “somebody”, but were too scared to really discover themselves, or too riddled with fear – fear of failure or even FEAR OF SUCCESS?
All of these questions led me to think about the time I heard a preacher say that the richest place in the world was the cemetery; not because of the jewels and trinkets they’re buried with, but because of the ideas, concepts, cures and businesses that could have revolutionized our world, yet never manifested. On the plane, I was so fed up with my personal and professional unhappiness that I realized that if I was going to feel any sense of accomplishment and peace, I had to pursue and bring to fruition all that God put me on this earth to do. I didn’t want to be one of those who died with life-changing gifts, talents and abilities inside of me. I had to become the “somebody” that I already was. Jaded mindsets, defeated mentalities, poor self image and guilt can keep anyone in stagnant positions; thus, making it hard to move in the direction of purpose. Here are a few key points that will help you transition into becoming the “somebody” you are destined to be:
1. Know Who & Whose You Are – If you don’t know who you are, how can you ever become? Take time to really focus on your personal and professional desires. Also, reflect and perfect your gifts, talents and your abilities. In Jeremiah 29:11, God proclaimed, “For I know the plans I have for you… They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (NLT). With that said, take time to talk with God and ask Him what your next step should be. You are His child purposed for His Glory; therefore, through Him you will receive a fresh revelation of who you were created to be, and be able to visualize the impact you will have in your family, workplace, community and the world!
2. Believe – Once you recognize your purpose, believe that you were chosen to accomplish it. You were exclusively given a divine vision and ability to perform a perfect work. Always have faith in yourself and remember that the good work that was started in you is guaranteed to be completed (Phil 1:6).
3. Plan and Move – What good is a person’s dream if there is no plan to make it a reality? Habakkuk 2:2 tells us to “write the vision, make it plain…”. It is important for you to write down your dreams, desires and visions so that you can keep them in front of you. Written words are proven to be constant reminders that inspire action. Once your vision or plan is written, start working! Each day, do something that will contribute to the execution of your plan… then, your road from “Nobody” to “Somebody” won’t seem as long.
4. Expect a Return on Investment – The investment of your time, energy and resources will never be in vain. As you pursue the title of “Somebody”, provisions will be made, doors will open, and opportunities will present themselves. Expectancy keeps you alert, and by being alert you are always ready and in position to receive the harvest from the fruits of your labor. Today, make the decision to pursue every single thing that GOD entrusted you to have and accomplish. There are decisions to make, plans to be written and destinies to be achieved. As encouragement, remember this: You can’t be “Everybody”, you’re not just “Anybody”, and there’s “Nobody” like you! You are “Somebody”! So, make your mind believe it and let the life you live show it – the world is waiting on you!
